Simon Yates (l) and Jonathan Addis, owners of Ena Mill

Ena Mill in Atherton has been granted planning permission to double its retail space, to more than 80,000sq-ft.

The coach-friendly outlet shopping centre predicts that the plans, first shared with the public last February, will create 200 new jobs over the next five years. They include the redevelopment of the Mill's first floor, and a new 300-cover restaurant.

The next five years will also see the engine room restored and opened for meetings and functions; a heritage centre celebrating the area’s industrial past; additional on-site parking; a second restaurant; and a final development phase to convert the top two floors into 80 residential apartments.

Joint-owner Jonathan Addis says: “We hope our plans can be a catalyst for renewed commercial optimism in the town. We will now begin by repaying people’s support by creating one of the best retail mill destinations in the country, right here in Atherton.”
