A new report from Cubic Transportation Systems sets out to demystify Mobility as a Service (MaaS) and makes the case for public transport to lead the way in its design and implementation.

MaaS offers people the ability to access and pay for multiple transport modes in one place.

So rather than owning a car, you access car clubs, bike hire, buses etc. through one app or server as and when needed.

Developed as a concept around 10 years ago, there are currently a host of providers competing to  define and offer different versions.

The report – MaaS: Putting Transit Front and Centre of the Conversation – argues that public transport  should form the backbone of MaaS to enable it to connect up cities in a way that cuts car use and serves all users.
